The Toronto Transformative Justice Collective (TTJC) is a group of diverse practitioners with 30+ years of experience doing community service with peoples impacted by criminalization and other intersecting forms of oppression. The TTJC was initiated in spring 2021 as a means to create a community of TJ practitioners supporting one another and contributing meaningfully to the movements for Transformative Justice and prison abolition. We provide support for folks interested in using transformative justice to address harms, build skills & increase community capacity for addressing violence or harm without relying on punitive justice. Services we offer include tailored Transformative Justice (TJ) workshops and programs, practitioner training, mentorship for community held TJ processes, circle keeping, mediation, public speaking, as well as resources for facilitators and communities of practice.
We believe that; — Everyone can learn and contribute to Transformative Justice processes, — No one is disposable and anyone can heal and transform harm with support, — Criminalized & low income peoples must be at the center of TJ movements, — When communities are engaged in TJ processes they are better able to also address the roots of harmful behaviors within and surrounding them in society, — Transformative & Healing Justice can offer meaningful alternatives to carceral justice, — Transformative Justice is a key part of movements for Abolition & defunding the police, — TJ practitioners have skills, knowledge & experiences to share that must support building broad communities of TJ practice & agency, — Tj practitioners & communities of practice benefit greatly from diverse spaces to learn, skill share, consult & strategize together. — Our work & services must be accessible to low income & criminalized communities! |
